Book Summary:

Cinnamon is the common name for the spice obtained from the dried inner bark of several species of the genus Cinnamomum in the Lauraceae family. In world trade, Cinnamomum cassia (L.) J. Presl Cinnamomum burmannii dominate, but it is of a different quality to ‘true’ or ‘Ceylon’ cinnamon produced from Cinnamomum zeylanicum Blume (C. verum J. Presl), with the latter much easier to process, giving a more delicate, sweeter flavor with nuances of clove, but more importantly with only traces (often below detection thresholds) of coumarin, compared with 5–7 g/kg in other species. Cinnamon has been a popular and expensive spice in many civilizations, including ancient Egypt, Rome and in 14th and 15th century Europe, where it was used primarily to preserve meat for its antibacterial properties, fine aroma and flavor. Ancient Egyptians used cinnamon in mummification process due to its antibacterial properties and fragrance. The quest for cinnamon brought many explorers to Ceylon, whose ancient history is intertwined with the cinnamon trade. Ancient Egyptians and Romans used cinnamon as a valued spice and as an incense. In recent years, much research has been conducted in crop improvement, processing and value addition in cinnamon. In addition to direct use as a condiment/spice, cinnamon has found a multitude of uses in the food and beverage, traditional medicine, pharmacology, nutraceutical and cosmetics industries. Ceylon cinnamon is unique in that oils distilled from the bark (major constituents are cinnamaldehyde and oleoresins), leaf (eugenol is the major constituent used in dentistry, perfumes, flavorings and as an antioxidant) and roots (camphor) have different industrial uses. Cinnamaldehyde is now a proven natural bactericide widely used in food and beverage industry, effective against Salmonella spp. and Escherichia coli. Thus, it has become an important natural component of organic fruit and vegetable juices to enhance microbial safety of these nutritious beverages. Because of its manifold uses, cinnamon is an important crop. There have been many recent publications on its ethnobotany, genetics, crop improvement, agronomy, processing, biotechnology, chemistry, food and medicinal uses, and industrial applications. However, one book condensing all these findings is lacking. Our publication, with chapters devoted to all these aspects of cinnamon written by experts in these fields, condenses current knowledge into a single source and contribute to the advancement and dissemination of knowledge and technology. Contributors to the book constitute internationally renowned senior scientists and academics with hands-on experience as well as movers and shakers of industry, thereby striking a right balance between theory and practice. Therefore it is a valuable source for students, teachers, scientists, planners policy makers, practicing agriculturists and industrialists, and a prized acquisition to any library in higher education institutions, R & D institutions and public and private sector institutions in agriculture and allied fields.

Book Summary:

Cinnamon Island is a mysterious, unchartered island, with magical history, and undiscovered secrets. The story is an impossible, torrid, fairy tale like, saga of an inter-racial, love triangle involving- a princess, a sailor and a farmer. The period is the late eighteenth century, before the advent of steamships, cell-phones, TV etc. The means of transport of the time were sailing ships, horses, horse driven coaches, and bullock carts. The characters and their emotions resulting in erotic encounters, however, are very much real and intense. Cinnamon Island is a fairy tale, but the picturesque depiction of the erotic love that happens between the characters in this book is no child’s fairy tale, but an adult depiction of love, sex and raw emotions and desires of the characters. The evolvement of the main characters, Irene the princess, Vivek the sailor and Conrad the farmer are stories within the main story. Could you guess the end of this intrigue…

Book Summary:

A Cinnamon Afternoon is a collection of 144 poems that introduces the reader to a surreal world, that exists intertwined with our mundane, casual world, where everything is interconnected and exists simultaneously as reality and also as imagination. Visions, contemplative states, delightful incursions in the lands where everything exists as sweet baked goodies, created and induced with the help of contemporary free-form poetry, keep the reader wanting to read more, so he can dwell again and again in the dimension where everything is just a fantasy seen from the corner of the eye. Add romance, out of time perceptions, surrealism, and mystery and you'll start to get an idea on how this book unfolds, page after page. The book manages to create that atmosphere where maturity and child-like play are blending together, projecting the reader in a timeless dimension, right in his living room, guiding him through a series of joyful adventures where the imaginative mind plays its strongest point. Envisioning real-life situations through playful and often surreal eyes brings that coziness and heart mending space, where the reader feels the warmth of his serene self coming back as if a thousand pieces of his soul are forming the big puzzle, again. In just a few words, the book can be described as a poetic journey into an imaginary cinnamon world that we all wish for, in our innermost cherished dreams.

Book Summary:

Here are the stories and adventures of Chinook, the mischievous Cinnamon Bear, who lives, wild, in the rich woods of Oregon. In this book you will be able to follow the adventures of Chinook, the cinnamon bear and his sister Snookie and of the Ranger’s Boy, the child will learn of tree mice and burrow mice, and of the little mountain pack-rats who build tepees, of those giant mousers, the bobcat and the California mountain lion, to say nothing of the bat, pika, elk, and snowshoe rabbit, and the ever present Douglas squirrel. He will wander through forests of spruce and fir to the snow-clad peaks, and back along cascading rivers, as the two cubs learn of the world in which they live. The Literary Review of the New York Evening Post has said of this book: This little bear will delight all children just because he is a ball of mischief, sagacity, awkwardness—a real bear. Book Summary:

A magical love story- and a richly detailed evocation of a great city. 1909, and life is hard for young Poppy Powers. Her dad has disappeared-gone to a season in the North somewhere and failed to return-leaving her mum to earn their keep and Poppy doing chores for Gran. Poppy dreams of being a musician like dad, but Gran would never allow it, and Gran’s rule is absolute in Cinnamon Alley. There is more than a littleof Gran’s stubbornness and determination in Poppy, however and the discovery of her Dad’s saxophone, secret music lessons and the Salvation Army band bring the stirrings of possibility. Waitressing in the drinking clubs during the terrible Great Was, Poppy and her dreams find a direction. It is there she falls in love, tragically and irrevocably, with the American Scott Warrender. Alone and destined to rely on her own talents, Poppy, with few loyal friends and a flair for dance music, forms the Power Girls, the first all-female band. The fight for respect and recognition is doubly hard for women, but this is the heady Roaring Twenties and all the Bright Young Things are desperate to dance. Among them is Roddy Ffitch. Charming, rich, madly in love with Poppy, he introduces her to a dangerous world of endless parties and fast cars. But can he help her forget Scott? From smoky clubs to ocean liners, from North Millwall to New York, though the war, the reckless dancing years and the Wall Street Crash, Poppy is determined to succeed, and to make her own way on her own terms. Only her last ambition remains unfulfilled-to share it all with the man she loves. But, maybe after all, what Poppy craves is just a step from Cinnamon Alley...

Cinnamon and Salt is a collection of recipes, stories and photographs that invites you to beautiful Venice through its beloved cicchetti. Cicchetti (pronounced chi-ke-tee) are little morsels; think of them as appetisers, aperitivo or hors d’oeuvres – but cicchetti are undeniably, distinctly Venetian and a delicious nod to Venice’s casual way of life. In Cinnamon and Salt, Italy-based food writer Emiko Davies delves into the rich, multicultural history of Venice and its unique cuisine, detailing more than sixty classic and modern recipes, from fried to sweet and from small plates to drinks. Try sweet and sour radicchio, the legendary fried meatballs, or creamy whipped cod on squares of polenta. Indulge in Venetian soft-shell crab before moving on to rose petal jam and sugar-coated fritters. You’ll even find recipes for a spritz, a Bellini and a thick hot chocolate, and be let in on the secrets to creating your own authentic cicchetti.

Book Summary:

No one ever said working with Santa was all reindeer games, and North Pole isn’t a place of wonder and amazement…until it is. It may not be the holidays, but magic is definitely in the air. * * * Working in Santa’s post office wasn’t an easy job. Each letter had to be read—even the ones that dug a hole in your heart and left shadows of the pain they imparted. But every elf needed a job if they were going to afford things like food and heat and a place to read a good book. Every elf except Santa’s brother. He’s wild, charming, and totally unrestrained by the monotony of life…or so go the rumors. He’s totally not the type of man I would take a second look at. At least, not until an accident he causes forces me to and my world heads down a path I hadn’t thought possible. What should a good elf do when the bad-boy brother of the big man himself comes to town and burns down the rumor mill with his smile, his kindness, and his heart? The spare may just be more vital to the Claus name than anyone expected. And I might be falling in love with him. * * * If you want to read a hilarious and comical story, this is the one for you. ~BookwormSuzy, reviewing CANDIED WOLF CINNAMON CLAUS is a paranormal romantic comedy from USA Today bestselling author Ellis Leigh. The story is a standalone PNR rom-com with wit, snark, shifters, and more than just flirting.
